Life is like a guitar – what you get out of it depends on how you play it.
I have that phrase hanging on the wall in my studio. My students see it every time they leave their lessons. My students represent a wide variety of ages – from age 4 to retirees. Everyone has several things in common no matter their age – desire, love and endurance.
I do not teach anyone who does not want to learn. I think it is a waste of time and money if someone MAKES you take lessons, and potential students need to understand it is not easy to pursue an instrument. Guitar can be complex, depending on how you play it, and, of course, you get out of it what you put in. In other words, PRACTICE.
Every time I sit down to practice, I learn something new. That is a good thing because that means I am still open for growth as a musician, a teacher and an artist.
If you already know how to play the guitar and think you cannot learn anymore, NOW is the time for you to start taking guitar lessons. I really admire my older students who began taking lessons for the first time when I started teaching several years ago. They have made wonderful discoveries, and are enjoying their adventure through the playground of music.
I am a classical guitarist. My job as a guitar instructor is to give my students the tools and knowledge so they can accomplish their desires as a guitarist. My life is like a guitar, and I love the many harmonies and melodies that I have been blessed with.
